I think I remember someone saying something about making choices and doing stuff based on fear…

Please note: These are work-in-progress colors. Vero should get me the final colors soon.

So!

So! Teen Spooky is throwing a lot of stuff at Flyboy. Some of it seems to be landing. All of it seems to be coming from a pretty scared place.

Is Teen Spooky making any sense at all? Is he right about what he’s saying? Does it matter if he’s right? What is Flyboy supposed to do with all this? And what does Teen Spooky even want right now?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  1. Avatar for Nate Nate says:

Sounds to me like Spookid is talking about self-care, which is important.

Also, I want to hug him. Like, a lot. :people_hugging:

  2. Words fail me. Teenage angst on another level with superhuman abilities added in. Thus is the stuff of nightmares born!

  3. I’m really enjoying this story-line. I can tell, because I’m actually getting fairly annoyed with Spooky. Basically this is Spooky to Mitch: “Mitch, you like me as much as I like you; you just wont admit it. Mitch, I know your motivations and have your entire relationship history all figured out. Mitch, your philosophy about the sacrifices superheroes should make is wrong, and mine is right. Mitch, you should date me, because I’m lonely.” Spooky is a really smart teen, and he has a good heart, but I’m really struggling with his approach here!

  4. He could definitely use a hug or two right now, Nate.

One I am sure they would both like to wake up from, Bill!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the story-line, Lee. I definitely wrote this scene to be… engaging. And reading reactions like yours is very gratifying.

Teen Spooky is definitely putting a bunch of stuff on Mitch without a whole lot of information. And then drawing some pretty dark conclusions.

If his goal here is to get Mitch to date him, I think many would struggle with this approach.

How do you think Mitch has handled things?

  5. hi hello I haven’t said anything for this & the previous page because FEELINGS!!! I feel bad for Mitch, I feel bad for MAH BOYYYY, I love the wrting and art but ow???

  6. Well, since you asked…
I think Mitch is handling it like a superstar, or perhaps more aptly like a superhero. There is something about Flyboy that really resonates with my concept of the archetypal hero. There is a nobility of character about him that seems to belie his youth. He’s willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. He’s patient, reserved, kind and strong, and there’s just a hint of tragedy that adds balance to his power. I may be reading too much into him (because you have created a character that I absolutely adore), but that’s the great thing about art - different people can interpret it differently. Anyway, thanks so much for all these great stories and characters!

  7. Yep, lots of feelings on these pages, Julia! But I’m glad you’re loving the writing. We’re almost at the end of this scene, so hang in there.

Well, thank you so much, Lee. I’m really glad you like Mitch so much. (And since he’s the POV character for Double Cross, we’re supposed to like him, so it’s also a good sign for this story arc!) While he’s not perfect, he has a number of very positive qualities that you do a great job of covering. My goal is to show gay people as real heroes, so it makes me really happy that what you see resonates with that archetype.

And you’re very welcome for the stories and characters. Thank you so much for your continued readership and support!
